The Turkish Statistical Institute reported on Tuesday that Iraqis ranked fourth among the nationalities purchasing the most real estate in Turkey during last December. According to the institute’s report, home sales in Turkey increased by 19.8% compared to the same period last year, reaching a total of 254,777 units sold.
The report also indicated that home sales to foreigners rose by 5.1% compared to the same month of the previous year, totaling 2,541 homes, representing 1.0% of total home sales in December.
It explained that Russians ranked first among foreign nationalities purchasing property, with 504 homes, followed by Iran in second place with 232 homes, and Ukraine in third with 193 homes.
Iraqis came fourth with 133 homes purchased, followed by Azerbaijan in fifth place with 113 homes, Germany sixth with 105 homes, Kazakhstan seventh with 92 homes, Saudi Arabia eighth with 74 homes, Afghanistan ninth with 71 homes, while China ranked tenth with the same number.
It is worth noting that Iraqis had topped the list of the largest property-buying nationalities in Turkey since 2015, but their ranking began to decline at the beginning of 2021, when they moved to second place after Iran, then to third place by April 2022 with the increase in Russian demand for real estate in Turkey, before recently settling into fifth place.
